TEEN THERAPY

Teens care… and they’re scared.

This is the crisis facing many teens when they look up from their Snapchat and “Finsta” (that’s short for “Fake Instagram” and it’s where they post the real stuff!) long enough to see young adulthood looming in front of them.

That dig about the phone is meant to dispel a common myth: Behind all that seemingly disinterested facade, teens really do care.

And many of them are scared.

Of the future. Of “wrong choices.” Of peer rejection. Of parental disapproval.

Anxiety is one of the most common — and easily treated — issues of adolescence.

But left unchecked for too long, it can easily turn into depression.

Teen depression can be easy to miss.

As a parent, you may feel caught off guard by signs of your teen’s depression that seem to “come out of nowhere.”

This isn’t because you’re a “bad parent.” It’s because teen depression can be hard to spot.

Gradual dips in grades from “not trying.” Less interest in friends and activities. More time alone. Sleeping late. Showering less. Eating more.

Some of this can all be fairly typical “teenage stuff.” You know, what we adults like to call “a phase.”

Sometimes it isn’t “just a phase.”

I specialize in working with those harder-to-reach teens. The ones who have been pulling away. The ones who may have been dismissive of the experience — or even idea — of therapy.

(I also work well with the ones who are self-aware and courageous enough to ask directly for this kind of help!)

Together, we will explore what is and isn’t “just a phase” so they can learn to navigate the normal stuff and also heal the really painful stuff.

I also assist concerned parents in making tough choices about things like medication, school, technology limits, and social rules.

Because one of the few things harder than being a teen right now could be being the parent of one.
